amiibo Stamp Guide for Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions is the long title of the 3DS remake of the original Superstar Saga from 2003. It features the full Superstar Saga game as well as a new side adventure titled Minion Quest (you can read our review of the game here). Both of these modes have different amiibo functionality, featuring compatibility with several Super Mario series figures including the new Goomba and Koopa Troopa amiibo that launched the same day as the game.
Superstar Saga
amiibo functions are unlocked in Superstar Saga shortly after you’ve met with Queen Bean in the Beanbean Kingdom. A bean citizen near the castle will have a familiar logo above their head and can be spoken to in order to learn about the amiibo features. The game is compatible with any variant of the following figures:
- Mario
- Luigi
- Peach
- Yoshi
- Toad
- Bowser
- Bowser Jr.
- Goomba
- Koopa Troopa
- Boo
The bean will ask to see any of these figures, and if you have one then you can go through the stamping process that the game describes to make your first stamp.
Mario and Friends Stamp Sheet
This stamp sheet is unlocked by default when you show the bean any compatible amiibo. It has spaces for stamps of each compatible amiibo that can be obtained by tapping their amiibo figure, and will give you rewards as you fill it out. The first stamp you make will give you the Chuckola Badge, a rare in-game drop, while all others will give you three of each bean type. Beans can be used to make bean juice at the Starbeans Cafe in Beanbean Castle Town.
Bowser’s Minions Stamp Sheet
This stamp sheet is unlocked by showing the bean a Goomba, Koopa Troopa or Boo amiibo. You can use any of these three amiibo to stamp each entry on this sheet, but you need to unlock access to each entry first. Each entry belongs to a specific group of minions that can be recruited in the Minion Quest mode (see the Minion Quest section for more details) and you can use your amiibo as a stamp once you’ve recruited the minions listed for that entry. However, you can also use an amiibo with save data from another save file that has recruited these minions to obtain the same rewards in Superstar Saga (but you won’t get the full rewards in Minion Quest unless you use an amiibo tied to the current save file).
You can show the bean your Bowser’s Minion stamps for different rewards from the Mario and Friends stamps. Each new stamp will get you a reward from the following list. They will always be unlocked in the same order regardless of which order you obtain the stamps.
- #1 Trousers
- 10 1-Up Mushrooms
- 20 Super Mushrooms
- 3 of each bean type
- Shroom Slacks
- 20 Super Syrups
- 5 of each bean type
- 20 Super Nuts
- 5 of each bean type
- Mush Badge A
- 20 1-Up Supers
- 8 of each bean type
- 20 Max Mushrooms
- 8 of each bean type
- Mush Badge AA
- 20 Max Syrups
- 10 of each bean type
- 20 Max Nuts
- Mushluck Pants
Minion Quest
amiibo functions in Minion Quest are unlocked immediately, however you can’t make full use of them until you clear the first three quests in the game, so you might as well wait until you’ve done that first.
Gold Captains
To get started, select the amiibo option from the main menu of Minion Quest. Select ‘Register amiibo’ and you can save your game data to a Goomba, Koopa Troopa or Boo amiibo. This will unlock a Gold Captain of that race. Not only are these shiny and pretty but they have slightly different stats from the regular variants.
- Captain Goomba (Gold) – Higher health, defence and speed than Captain Goomba
- Captain Koopa Troopa (Gold) – Lower health and speed than Captain Koopa Troopa
- Captain Boo (Gold) – Higher speed than Captain Boo
Stamps
Now that you’ve got game data saved to your amiibo, you can get to work on stamping your stamp sheet. Make sure you’ve gotten the Bowser’s Minions stamp sheet by showing the amiibo bean a Goomba, Koopa Troopa or Boo amiibo figure as detailed in the Superstar Saga section of the guide above. In order to unlock the ability to stamp an entry in your Bowser’s Minions stamp sheet you need to recruit specific groups of minions in the Minion Quest mode. To check your progress on these groups you can either scroll through the entries of the stamp sheet in Superstar Saga or select ‘Stamp Details’ in the amiibo menu of Minion Quest.
Minions you’re currently in possession of will have a ! next to their name. If you have a minion of that type but not enough of them at the required level then they will not have a ! next to their name. If you haven’t recruited a minion of that type at all, they will show up as ???. When a checklist is completed the name of the group will appear and you can stamp that stamp sheet entry in Superstar Saga using a Goomba, Koopa Troopa or Boo amiibo. Doing so will give you experience beans in Minion Quest and might even unlock a quest. If you have an amiibo with save data from another file then you can stamp any stamp sheet entry if that save file has unlocked access to it. Doing so will give you the experience bean rewards but you will not unlock any quests tied to that stamp unless you stamp it again using your own amiibo data.
Each minion group is listed below, along with their stamp (each has three variants depending on which amiibo last stamped it) and any rewards that the stamp unlocks. These rewards are specific to that stamp. All minions are required to be Level 10 or higher unless otherwise specified.
